Not Mutally Exclusive: Moms-to-be & Bridesmaids-to-be

By Thread Said

068084015

A few times a week soon-to-be bridesmaids swing by our NYC showroom for dress fittings. To see a gal wandering around half disrobed, oohing and ahhing at various dresses here and there, is not an uncommon sight. It is, in fact, quite a fun aspect of working at Thread, in kind of an out-shopping-with-your-girlfriends type of way.

“So cute!” one of us will squeal as we pass, enroute to the backroom, a future bridesmaid adjusting and readjusting herself in front of one of our floor-to-ceiling mirrors. “Fits you so nicely!” another will agree on their way to the copier.

Anyway, long story short: we had one such bridesmaid in here today and just had to share, because she was one of the most adorable bridesmaids we’ve seen in awhile. Why? Because peeking out from under the empire waist of the knee-length Elijah she was trying on was the cutest little baby bump. (Okay, the cutest big baby bump.) We were so impressed with a.) how great she looked and b.) how great our dress looked!

Guess we shouldn’t have been so surprised; after all, we do have two whole sections on our site devoted to mothers-to-be. Still, it’s always nice to see such positive results, non?

Treat Yourself

By Thread Said

Picture 1Picture 2

In the land of Weddings, there are certain things a bride should scrimp on, and there are certain things a bride should splurge on. We at Thread believe that one such splurge should be lingerie.

Now, why, might you ask, would one splurge on something so frivolous as lingerie? In a recession, no less? Something that (sorry, bashful brides-to-be!) is often cast to the floor without a second thought within (we hope!) mere minutes of entering the bridal suite?

Here’s why: Rarely will there be another occasion in your life when an entire day will be so all about you. And therefore, you deserve to be at your absolute best, your most beautiful, on that day, from your hair to your dress to, yep, your skivvies. (Plus, it IS only lingerie, which is only about six square inches of fabric on any given garment, so at least it is somewhat of a reasonable splurge in comparison to, say, a new car.)

So, off you go, ladies, to explore the La Perlas and the Kiki de Montparnasses of the world–if only for one day.

Your Wedding Gown, Found: The Woodstock Edition

By Thread Said

AthenaBow

In honor of Woodstock’s big 4-0 (coming up this weekend!), we decided to share the very wedding gown we might have worn if we had been peace, love and happiness-ing our way around life back then. Forget lace, buttons, beading and other such accoutrement: This dress, our Athena, is as simple as it is chic. The full length renders any type of shoe all but unnecessary, and the relaxed cut neckline could even allow some to go without a bra, which we just love… and imagine the gals of Woodstock would, too.

(Inspired? Buy the Athena here. And guess what? The gown retails for under a thousand, which is, as most of you know, an utter steal.)

White Party

By Thread Said

We don’t know about you, but when we picture our big day (well, those of us at Thread who are not yet hitched), we hope it goes down something like it did for this couple. Beautiful beach setting? Check. Bare feet in the sand? Check. Token jumping-in-the-air group shot? Check. Happy laughing bridal party? Check. Gorgeous, crisp bridesmaid dresses? Check. (Okay, they are Thread dresses, so we have to say that, but do you disagree? Didn’t think so.)

What we really love about this wedding is the traditionally un-traditional use of all white for the bridal party. Just perfect for the beach setting.

Congratulations, Rachel & Frank!

(Above, members of the bridal party wear Thread’s Serena and Liddy styles.)
