We squealed in delight (along with the rest of the world) when we saw Michelle Obama in a white Jason Wu gown at last week’s inauguration. The First Lady looked glamorous, chic and timeless, fueling hopes country-wide that we might have a new Jackie O. in our midst.

Something else we’re thrilled about? The one-shoulder silhouette seems to have finally made the jump from perennially “trendy” to officially “classic.” In other words, brides-to-be, we suggest jumping on the one-shoulder bandwagon before everyone else does.

We at Thread are HUGE fans of the Showtime series Californication, so imagine our delight when our pal Andrew at Teen Vogue brought actress Madeleine Martin by our showroom to choose a dress for the Golden Globes. (Fifteen-year-old Madeleine plays David Duchovny’s sage daughter on the show, which was nominated for Best Television Series- Musical or Comedy.)

After trying on a few different dresses, Madeleine decided to go with our short-sleeved Storm print dress from Spring/ Summer 2009. We just love how chic and age-appropriate Madeleine looked on the red carpet next to many of her bare-shouldered contemporaries. Junior bridesmaids out there, take note!
