About Thread
The Beginning (circa 1999)
Beth, a fashion stylist in NYC, was desperately looking for a bridesmaid dress for her sister's wedding. Never having had a fashion dilemma she couldn't solve, Beth set out shopping to find the perfect bridesmaid dress and for the first time found herself empty-handed.
That evening at dinner, Beth shared her fashion dilemma with her friend Sophie, a downtown designer fresh out of Parsons.
Sophie, sad to see Beth so dismayed, suddenly realized she was the girl to come to the rescue. Over a delicious tiramisu, the two decided to collaborate and design the perfect bridesmaid dress.
The day of the wedding, the bride twirled joyfully on the dance floor with her new husband while Beth and Sophie gleefully accepted compliments on their eight beautiful bridesmaid dresses.
The two realized their job was far from over: there were many stylish bridesmaids-to-be out there in need of their help. And so Thread was born.
When Beth met Melissa
Beth is from the Midwest. (Detroit.) Melissa is from the Midwest. (Chicago.) It was only natural, then, that the two gals would hit it off famously when Melissa joined Thread in 2002. And so, when Sophie left Thread three years later to pursue other opportunities, Melissa joined Beth as co-owner and designer.
Beth and Melissa get on so well together, in fact, that they launched Thread Social, a line of party dresses, in 2006. (A line, mind you, immediately loved and beloved by everyone from actresses to fashion editors to Beth's aunts in the Midwest).
Talk about a match made in fashion heaven.
